Drone Preflight Conditions & Readiness
Before you launch, Air-Chirp brings together the conditions that matter to drone pilots — wind speed, visibility, temperature, solar KP index, and nearby airspace context — so you can make a confident go/no-go decision.
What the Preflight Dashboard Shows You
The preflight view pulls together real-time environmental data and presents it in a clear, color-coded summary. Instead of checking multiple sources, you get a single panel that highlights conditions relevant to your flight.
Wind & Temperature
Current wind speed, gusts, and temperature at your location, with color-coded thresholds so you can quickly see if conditions are within safe operating limits.
Visibility & Precipitation
Visibility in miles and any active precipitation, so you know whether visual line-of-sight conditions meet your operational requirements.
Solar KP Index
Geomagnetic activity (KP index) that can affect GPS accuracy. High KP values may warn of reduced positioning reliability for your drone.
Site Safety Flags
Color-coded indicators flag conditions outside typical safe operating ranges, so you can focus on what needs attention before deciding to fly.
How Preflight Works in Air-Chirp
1. Open the Pre-Flight tab
From the bottom navigation in the Air-Chirp app, tap the Pre-Flight tab. The dashboard automatically uses your current location, or you can set a custom location.
2. Review the condition summary
Each environmental factor is displayed with a color-coded status: green for within typical limits, amber for marginal, and red for conditions that may be unsafe. A summary card at the top gives you an overall readiness indicator.
3. Check airspace context
The preflight view connects to Air-Chirp's airspace awareness layers, so you can see whether your planned flight area intersects controlled airspace, TFRs, or other FAA awareness layers. Learn more about airspace awareness →
4. Make your go/no-go decision
Air-Chirp presents the information; you make the call. The dashboard does not authorize or prohibit flight — it gives you the situational awareness to decide responsibly.
What Preflight Does Not Do

Air-Chirp's preflight dashboard provides situational awareness only. It does not replace official weather sources, FAA authorization, LAANC approvals, or the pilot's responsibility to comply with all applicable regulations. Always verify conditions with official sources before flying. Weather data may be delayed or incomplete, and airspace layers are for awareness — not authorization.
