How Air-Chirp Supports Lost Pet Searches
A lost pet search is a specialized type of drone event in Air-Chirp. It combines the event coordination system — check-ins, chat, and map awareness — with dedicated search tools for organizing coverage and tracking progress.
Define Search Areas
Create and draw search areas on the map to organize where teams should focus. Search areas help coordinate coverage and avoid gaps or duplication.
Coordinate Team Members
Volunteer pilots can join the search, check in, and see each other on the map. The team tab shows who is participating and their roles.
Track Coverage
Search area updates let the team track which areas have been searched, so effort is directed where it is needed most and no ground is missed.
Sighting Management
When a potential sighting is reported, the search status can be updated and the team is notified, so everyone can converge or adjust their search pattern.
Mission Chat
The built-in event chat keeps the search team in sync — share updates, coordinates, and alerts in real time without leaving the map.
Last-Seen Details
Search missions can record the pet's last-seen location and time, giving the team a starting point for organizing search coverage.
How to Organize a Lost Pet Drone Search
1. Create a search event
Trusted pilots and administrators can create a lost pet search event from the Events tab. Enter the pet's name, last-seen location, and any relevant details.
2. Draw search areas
Use the search area tools on the map to define where volunteer pilots should search. You can create multiple areas and update them as the search progresses.
3. Recruit volunteers
Share the event link with other pilots. They can join the mission, check in, and see the search areas and team positions on the map.
4. Coordinate and track
Use the mission chat to communicate, update search areas as coverage changes, and manage sightings. When the pet is found or the search is called off, update the mission status.

Important Limitations
Volunteer drone search missions are organized by community members. Air-Chirp provides coordination tools but does not guarantee that a lost pet will be found. All pilots participating in a search must comply with FAA regulations, maintain visual line of sight, and operate within their authorization. Search coordinators should ensure all volunteer pilots are properly certified and authorized for the airspace where they are flying. Air-Chirp does not verify pilot credentials or assume responsibility for search outcomes.
